Welcome to 2022 fam! This week with my personal 2022 goals at the forefront of my mind I wanted to talk about goals, specifically the ones in which chiropractic can potentially help. What are goals?
Many people talk about the benefit of setting goals in our lives. I have seen lots of success simply because I have written something down and set out to do it. Many times i even write goals down and forget about them, coming back to my goal journal later on and realizing that i have completed something that i have written down gives me a fantastic psychological boost. The completion of small goals also helps me initiate more drive to complete more complex goals.
So what is a goal? In my opinion a goal is a target or objective that one sets out to reach. My favorite type of goals are what are known as SMART goals. In short these are goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time bound. Here is a link that speaks in depth about Smart goals.
There are many opportunities in which to set goals. I try to review and set goals a few times a month to help keep me focused. The beginning of a new year is another opportunity that many people take advantage of as a reset. It is best to be consistent with your goals and follow up with yourself when you are either completing your goals or not.
Dr. Derek’s Personal Goals
Some of the goals I currently have set for myself are running the Nifty Fifty in Juneau in august this is building off of my marathon goal from last year, bench pressing 315 lbs on my 30th birthday, increasing my spirituality and closeness with deity and maintaining up to date qualifications with my chiropractic licensure. Those goals of course have much more written out supporting them. They all have a plan and a timestamp with them that allows me to see how my progression is going.

- Lose weight.
This is probably the most common new year’s resolution ever. Many people set this goal and never attain it. In fact, according to this article, Americans gain around 2 lbs every holiday season and never loses it. There may be many reasons why individuals do not lose weight but if an individual has pain accompanied with the exercise necessary for weight loss. Many times individuals with low back pain, or knee pain associated with exercise, we can likely help at a happy family chiropractic.
- Increase activity

- Healthier lifestyle
Building a healthier lifestyle is another common goal I have been hearing people talk about. One of My favorite things to do with my patients is teach them how they can live healthier.
