There are a few myths out there that I want to dispel to help you understand when an individual should seek chiropractic care. The first myth is that chiropractors only deal with neck pain, back pain, and sometimes headaches. We hear that all the time. The truth is that we are really good at taking care of these issues in most cases. Since we are good at taking care of these issues we get the reputation as "The Back Doc" or "The Neck Doc". These reputations aren't bad; they just seem to limit the potential of what chiropractors are able to facilitate. ## Chiropractors are Doctors of the Nervous System. Chiropractors have a main focus on the Spinal column because of what is housed within the spine. Inside the spinal column, we are each granted the gift of a spinal cord. The spinal cord's job is to relay information from the brain to the rest of the body. Chiropractic works with much more minor injuries to the spinal column that affect the motion of the individual joints and more importantly have an effect on the brain and the body's ability to communicate and therefore function. These injuries are referred to as subluxations. ## We're Going to Have to Get You Adjusted When you come into the office you will hear a lot about the chiropractic adjustment. This is our bread and butter. It is what we do and it is how we help people on their journeys through the healing process. The chiropractor after checking the individual for subluxations applies a force called an adjustment. The force is calculated and applied to a specific bone following the anatomical structure of the joint in order to encourage the body to restore normal motion which will allow the body to improve the communication to that area and increase its ability to heal. In short, the adjustment is encouragement given to the body and if delivered properly the body takes over and begins to heal. ## Chiropractic is Holistic, Everything is Connected Within the Body. The spinal column houses the spinal cord which relays communication from the brain to the whole body, so if one of these subluxations can affect the communication to any part of the body, not just the back and or neck. Therefore chiropractic becomes holistic, which is defined by google as "characterized by comprehension of the parts of something as intimately interconnected and explicable only by reference to the whole." We take care of the whole body, not just one or two of the parts because the whole body is connected. ## Interested in Health?
